Actors Chidi Mokeme, Bucci Franklin and Gabriel Afolayan have been nominated for the prestigious AMAA 2024 Best Leading Actor award.
The nominees were announced during the unveiling event held at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday. The event was attended by key members of the jury, the AMAA screening college, and the AFA board.
Hosted by popular presenter Vimbai Mutinhiri Ekpenyong, the occasion marked the commencement of activities for the 20th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
The nominees and award categories were carefully selected by the AMAA college of screeners and the jury.
Nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role include Zolixa Xaluva for The Queenstown Kings, Gabriel Afolayan for This is Lagos, Duncan Murunyu Mungai for Boda Love, Nenesenor Abloso for Letters to Goddo, Bucci Franklin for The Weekend, Femi Jacobs for Anjola, and Chidi Mokeme for Out of Breath.
In addition to the Best Actor Category, other notable award categories include Best Documentary, Best Film by an African Living Abroad, Best Diaspora Short, the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) award for Best Nigerian Film, Best Young/Promising Actor, and Best Actress in a Leading role.
Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, chief operating officer of AMAA also highlighted some of the key activities planned for the 2024 edition.
These include the launch of the AMAA Coffee Book, the AMAA Africa Night of Legends, AMAA Meets Nollywood, an Africa Fashion Show and Exhibition, and the AMAA Gala Night.
This year’s AMAA themed “Celebrating African Creativity,” is being organised in partnership with the Lagos State government.
Prominent attendees at the event included Mr. George Anyiam-Osigwe, his wife Chinyere Anyiam-Osigwe, Mr. Kennedy Anyiam-Osigwe, Mr. Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, NFVCB Executive Director Dr. Shaibu Husseini, and actors such as Nobert Young, Segun Arinze, and Francis Onwochei.
