Chief Daddy, a film directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, has grossed N40million in its opening three days at the cinema according to figures released on Monday by FilmOne Distribution.
The EbonyLife Films production also clocked the second highest opening weekend for a Nollywood film in 2018.
Other figures announced by FilmOne directorMoses Babatope on Film4Life, a Nollywood WhatsApp group, include third highest opening weekend for a Nollywood film ever.
It also emerged the fifth consecutive numberone film for Ebony Life Films after FIFTY, The Wedding Party, The Wedding Party 2 and Royal Hibiscus Hotel.
Akinmolayan, who also The Wedding Party 2, becomes the only filmmaker to have two number one films in the same calendar year.
“Chief Daddy maintains Nollywood’s 12 consecutive week dominance at the top of the Nigerian box office,” Babatope said.
Nollywood films have led the box office since Merry Men released on September 28.
That was followed by King of Boys released in October.
Chief Daddy, Babatope added, is on course to deliver N70million in week one and N200million before the end of 2018.
“What looked like a very lacklustre year for Nollywood in cinemas is proving to end very strongly and compete to be one of the strongest years for the industry ever,” Babatope continued.
A film about a flamboyant billionaire who dies suddenly, Chief Daddy features an array of Nollywood big names like Joke Silva, Taiwo Obileye, Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ini Edo, Dakore Akande, Falz and Rachael Oniga.
