Renowned novelist Chimamanda Adichie has denied being related to a woman Nkiru Okoye who was murdered in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Mrs Okoye, 40, was allegedly beaten to death by her brother-in-law, George Okoye, over landed property.
George reportedly invaded the Okoye’s residence with some of his relatives and attack his sister-in-law and her husband Emenike. He is currently in police custody.
Several news outlets reported that the woman was related to Chimamanda.
However, Omawumi Ogbe, a spokesperson of the writer, said in a statement on Sunday that Chimamanda was not related to the woman.
Ogbe noted that the “lady in the story is neither Chimamanda’s sister nor a relative.”
“Chimamanda is very shaken by this incorrect news and is disappointed at the unprofessionalism displayed by The Frontier, both with the first false post and the inaccurate rejoinder.
“We send our sympathy to the family of the murdered lady,” she added.
