Lawyer, journalist and media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo has revealed how he struggled secretly with a mental disorder and Tourette’s Syndrome.
In an interview with actress Elvina Ibru to mark his birthday on Tuesday, Chude revealed his shocking personal health struggles.
“A doctor in the UK diagnosed me with obsessive compulsive disorder and he said to me, ‘So Chude tell me, how long have you been living with OCD?’ He took it for granted that whatever country I was coming from, I had already been diagnosed with OCD,” he said.
Chude also said he had been living with a neurological disorder called Tourette’s Syndrome diagnosed by a different doctor in 2016.
“The first physical sign of Tourette’s is movement disorders and the second is vocal tics which I used to experience very badly.
“I remember telling the doctor that I don’t feel comfortable in my own body, and that I feel like my body is not my own,” he added.
Chude also advised people dealing with a mental disorder or any medical challenge to be of good courage and not consider their condition as the end of the world for them.
The 36-year-old was the youngest journalist ever to interview a sitting Nigerian president after securing a sit-down with the then-president Goodluck Jonathan in 2011.
