Actress Mercy Aigbe has raised concerns over reports that some cinemas are allegedly discouraging fans from watching her recently released film, ThinLine.
The 46-year-old, in an Instagram post on Saturday, shared a screenshot of a fan’s complaint about being adviced against watching the film at two separate cinemas.
According to the fan, the staff at Festival Mall cited a “bad screen” as the reason for discouraging her, while at Maryland Mall, the excuse was a faulty air conditioner in the hall where ThinLine was showing.
The fan noted that attendants instead recommended another film, Waiter.
The fan’s message read:
“Good day Ma’am, so I went to watch ThinLine at Festival Mall yesterday afternoon. The ticket attendant ‘advised’ me not to, something about their screen being bad.
“Then I drove from Festival Mall to Maryland Mall, they also ‘advised’ me not to, saying the AC in that particular cinema was bad and that I should watch The Waiter.
“I went home angry and irritated. Please, if you can relate this information to the people that can do something about it. I just think it doesn’t make sense for two cinemas to have an ‘excuse’ and even advise people against seeing a particular movie.”
Actor Jamiu Azeez, a colleague of Mercy, corroborated the complaint.
He revealed that during a meet-and-greet at Maryland Mall, staff informed patrons that the air conditioning in the hall showing ThinLine was not functioning.
He added that he had to plead with fans to watch the movie despite the challenges.
“I can testify to the Maryland Mall,” Jamiu wrote.
“The AC in the hall for ThinLine was not working, and the attendants were telling people before getting tickets, which actually discouraged a lot of people.
“I had to start begging people to please help us watch it like that to support this woman who has invested so much in this project.”
Mercy, a mother of two, expressed her frustration in her caption:
“Lori THINLINE, Baba gba Ope wa, Baba gba Iyin wa! 🙏 Because my DM is full … As an investor, it’s not easy getting all these feedbacks.
“Trust me, it’s not! One thing that is my joy in all of these is the reviews from people who have seen THINLINE. 🔥 Because these incessant complaints!!! Whew! But regardless, we move!!! 👊”
She also shared positive reviews from fans who had watched the film and assured her followers that the issues with the cinemas would be addressed.
ThinLine, which hit cinemas on December 13, features an ensemble cast, including Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Nkechi Blessing, Adeniyi Johnson, Yvonne Jegede, and Mercy Aigbe herself.
