The police escorts attached to Grammy winner Burna Boy, who were arrested over a shooting at socialite Obi Cubana’s club have denied firing shots at the party.
Qed.ng reported the Lagos State Police Commissioner’s Special Squad detained five policemen attached to Burna Boy for attempted murder after they shot two clubbers Lawrence Irebami, the husband of the woman Burna Boy allegedly made sexual advances to and another identified simply as Tolu, at Club Cubana in Lagos on June 8.
Though Briella Neme, wife of the man who was shot alongside his friend that night, shared a video of the scene on her Instagram page earlier this week, the policemen, who were arrested on the directive of the inspector-general of police, insisted during interrogation that the bullet fired was not from their rifles.
The policemen, all corporals, were said to have argued that there were other uniform policemen within the premises of the club when the incident happened.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy is yet to show up to explain his side of the matter since the incident happened, as he reportedly travelled to Spain.
However, while addressing the matter in a Twitter post on Wednesday, June 15, Burna Boy pointed out that he was not shocked about the reports linking him to the incident.
“The Nigerian social media can say Burna Boy started Boko haram, e no go shock me,” he tweeted.
