Lauretta Onochie social media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari has accused CNN of lying about the October 20 incident between security forces and #EndSARS protesters at Lekki toll gate in Lagos.
CNN said on Wednesday that its findings from verified video footages show the Nigerian Army fired live bullets at the protesters. But the army had repeatedly said they only fired blank bullets.
Mrs Onochie tweeted on Thursday accusing the network of falsehood.
“I’m not upset that CNN lied to the world about my nation, Nigeria. I’m upset that they think we are so stupid that we will swallow their lies,” she wrote.
“We won’t be bullied into believing a lie!”
Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed had said during a press conference in Abuja that the network ought to be sanctioned.
He said the CNN report was one-dimensional and lacked balance.
