There was confusion Friday over reports that Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has resigned over allegation that she forged her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.
Hours after multiple media reports that the 51-year-old had resigned, there was no official statement has been issued confirming or denying the reports.
Mrs Adeosun was still working in her office as late as 4:10 pm on Friday.
Her media aide, Oluyinka Akintunde, did not answer a phone call by Qed.ng.
An aide close to the minister, however, told our correspondent that it is inconceivable for a minister who has resigned to be allowed access to her duty post because of the sensitive nature of her office.
Director (Press) in the Ministry of Finance, Hassan Dodo, told ThisDay he was not aware Adeosun had resigned.
“Before God and man, I am not aware of anything. If I have any information, I will not hide it from you,” he said.
An official who spoke with the newspaper said it was unlikely that the minister would resign at this time when a high-level team of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is billed to visit next month.
When contacted, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Garba Shehu, said he had not been brief on such development.
