Mixed reactions have been trailing the response of Chicken Republic to a viral video of two security guards dancing at one of its outlets in the country.
It was rumoured on Thursday that the guards were sacked, a move which was greeted with public outcry.
However, in its reaction on Friday, the retail food outlet said that, contrary to opinions, it encourages its staff to “have fun at work.”
It said in its statement posted to Instagram that the guards work for a private security company, assuring that they were not sacked.
“When the management of the private security company saw the two security guards dancing in the video, they had concerns that the security officers whilst dancing were not necessarily conducting their duties responsibly and as such were not fully focused on the core of their duty which is your safety and security…
“We have followed up with the security company and they have assured us that the security guards have not been fired, have been paid their dues and offered some retraining. We value your communication and we have heard you,” the statement said.
The company was, however, silent on the rumour that the security guards have found new jobs.
Nigerians expressed mixed feelings to the statement in the comment section.
