President of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has suspended a proposed programme in Ghana after authorities banned mass cluster gatherings, including prayer sessions in mosques and churches, to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Ghana issued the directive on Sunday after its number of infected cases of the Covid-19 pandemic climbed from two to six.
Tweeting on Monday, Suleman said the programme ‘Greater Works 2020’ would be held on a later date.
“Due to the government decision on large gatherings in ghana, Greater Works 2020 Ghana is shifted. The new date will be communicated soon. We are praying for the world. This virus will go as suddenly as it appeared in Jesus name. Don’t be afraid. THIS TOO SHALL PASS,” he said.
The cleric said in another tweet: “We are spending today in prayers for God to heal all those already infected whilst others not infected take precautionary measures and be calm. We curse the root of coronavirus in Jesus name…”
President Nana Akufo-Addo addressed the country on Sunday evening and ordered the suspension of public gatherings, including religious services for the next four weeks.
“I have decided in the interest of public safety and the protection of our population to review the public gathering advisories earlier announced as follows: Firstly, all public gatherings including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, sporting events and religious activities, such as services in churches and mosques, have been suspended for the next four weeks,” he said.
He also directed that all schools, including universities and basic schools, be closed down from Monday until further notice.
However, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination candidates will be allowed to attend school.
