Court adjourns charge against ex NIA DG till February 7

Ayodele-Oke

A Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned hearing till February 7 of the case against former Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke and his wife, Folashade.

Mr Oke and his wife are being accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of concealing crime proceeds totaling $205 million.

Prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court on Wednesday that although the case was still not listed as was the case on February 1, he was seeking a clear direction from the court in the circumstances.

Mr Oyedepo, citing provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, said that the defendants could be compelled to attend trial by summons or bench warrant.

The trial judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, said although the rules had such provisions, it was necessary for the court to have something to act upon, and that at the moment there was nothing before the court.

He then adjourned the case until February 7 to allow the prosecution to bring his application before the court.
