A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has adjourned the defamation case filed by rapper Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz and his father, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana, against social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as Verydarkman (VDM), to April 15, 2025.
Justice Matthias Dawodu adjourned the matter after receiving a letter from VDM’s legal team, Deji Adeyanju & Co., stating that the lead defence counsel, Marvin Omorogbe, was unavailable due to a “domestic emergency.”
The letter, dated February 18 and signed by a counsel in the firm, Nafiu Alagbe, requested the court to pick a new date in March or April.
While VDM was absent, Falana was present in court.
Counsel for the Falanas, Omotayo Olatunbosun, dismissed the defence’s request as a “delaying tactic.”
However, following the court’s direction, he proceeded to move his counter-affidavit opposing VDM’s preliminary objection to the suit.
Justice Dawodu subsequently fixed April 15 for the hearing.
Meanwhile, Channels Television reports that after the ex parte application for a preemptive remedy was granted by Justice Dawodu, the Falanas have now filed a substantive suit, which has been assigned to Justice Fimisola Azeez of the same court.
The lawsuit stems from a controversial voice recording released by VDM last year, in which a person, purported to be crossdresser Bobrisky, alleged that Falz spoke with him while he was in prison and that a certain SAN was paid N10 million to secure a federal pardon.
Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in jail in April 2024 after being convicted for naira abuse.
In the recording, the speaker, claiming to be Bobrisky, also alleged that his “godfather” helped him pay for accommodation outside the main prison facility while serving his sentence.
