An Osun State High Court has barred the Oluwo of Iwo Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi from installing the founder of Jama’at Taawunil Muslimeen, Daood Molaasan, as the Grand Mufti of Iwoland.
Lawyer of the League of Imams and Alfas Southwest, Edo and Delta, Kazeem Odedeji, had filed the motion in court to stop Oluwo from the installation.
Justice Sikiru Oke granted the motion ex-parte numbered HOS/98/2021 dated October 26 restraining the Oluwo and one other from installing Grand Mufti of Iwoland pending the hearing and determination of the motion.
A statement by Sheik Jamiu Kewulere claimed the Oluwo lacks the power to install anyone as an Islamic titleholder be it Otun Ajanasi, Ajansi or Mufti of Iwoland.
It was learnt that the officials of the league met Osun State Governor Ggboyega Oyetola to report Oluwo for meddling with the affairs of Muslims, noting that it may cause chaos and religious crisis.
However, Oluwo’s spokesman Alli Ibraheem in a statement on Friday insisted the monarch will on Saturday, October 30 go ahead with the installation.
He said, “The well-deserved merit is scheduled to hold at the Oluwo palace premises by 10 am. The appointment of Sheik Daood Imran as Grand Mufti of Iwoland was unanimously agreed after due consultation with stakeholders.”
