A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted Chioma Okoli N5 million bail following her arraignment for alleged defamation against Erisco Foods Ltd.
Justice Peter Lifu also ruled on Friday that Mrs Okoli is to provide two sureties in like sum.
One of the sureties, the judge said, must be the defendant’s spouse or blood relative with a variable source of income and also residing within the jurisdiction of the court.
The judge ordered the sureties to deposit a passport photograph each and directed the defendant to deposit her passport if any.
The Inspector-General of Police had filed a two-count charge against Okoli, Happiness Obas and Don Kashking, both said to be at large, on alleged conspiracy to send a message on Facebook to instigate people against Erisco Foods Limited.
According to the charge, the defendants knew the said “information to be false and with intent to cause annoyance, inconvenience danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to Erisco Foods Limited, the management and members of the family.”
Okoli pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The case was adjourned until June 13 for further hearing.
