A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted N100 million bail to a Bayelsa-based journalist, Jones Abiri.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu granted him bail on Monday under special circumstance as provided under section 161 of the Administrative of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

Ojukwu ruled that the defendant must get a surety in like sum and that the surety must be an owner of landed property in Abuja.

Mr Abiri was arraigned by the Federal Government on May 24 on three counts of alleged economic sabotage and terrorism.

Prosecutors say Abiri sent text messages from his phone number to Shell and AGIP officials, threatening to blow their oil installations if his demands were not met.

They said the alleged offences were committed between June and July 2016.

The charges came nine months after Abiri was freed after two years without trial in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The case was adjourned to June 28 for commencement of trial.
