A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused the request of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu to be transferred from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to Kuje Correctional Centre.
Justice Binta Nyako gave the ruling on Thursday after Mr Kanu pleaded not guilty to seven-count amended charges of treasonable felony and terrorism filed by the office of the attorney-general of the federation.
The judge adjourned till November 10, 2021, to hear Kanu’s application challenging the competency of the charge preferred against him.
Justice Nyako also ordered that three people of Kanu’s choice should be allowed to visit him every Thursday.
Earlier, the DSS brought Kanu into the courtroom on the fifth floor of the high-rise building about 9:45 am in the company of heavily armed security agents.
There was pandemonium earlier at the main entrance of the building as lawyers clashed with DSS personnel over refusal to allow them access into the court premises.
