Court remands businessman over alleged trespass, assault

A Kabusa Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, ordered that a businessman, Rexford Olawuni, who allegedly trespassed and assaulted a security guard, be remanded in prison custody, pending trial.

The police had re-arraigned Olawumi on three counts of criminal trespass, assault and criminal intimidation.

Olawuni, who resides in Dawaki, Abuja, was alleged to have harassed members of staff of a business located at No 3, Aso Drive, Asokoro.

The Judge, Aliyu Kagarko, order that the defendant be remanded in Keffi  correctional facility.

He adjourned the case until Oct. 29, for hearing

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mahmud Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug.28, in Asokoro.

Lawal informed the court that Ms Jane Aboh, owner of the business, reported the matter at the Asokoro police station.

He said that the complainant reported that Olawuni, went to her business premises and created a scene by hitting the gate and ordering everybody to come out.

Lawal alleged that the defendant claimed that the property, on which the office was situated, belonged to him and threatened to kill the occupants, if they don’t vacate his property.

He further alleged that the defendant claimed that he gave his friend money; to buy the complex for him while in diaspora.

The prosecution counsel also told the court that Olawuni assaulted the security guard when he was asked to vacate the premises.

He informed the court that the defendant was on August 8, arraigned on same charges before the same judge.

Lawal, also said that after the case was discharged from the court, the defendant went back and committed same offence at the same place.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 348, 265 and 397 of the Penal Code law.

After the charges were read to him, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
