A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja Wednesday ordered that leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, be remanded in prison.
Justice John Itsoho gave the order after listening to arguments by counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS), Mohammed Diri, and Chuks Muoma (SAN), counsel to Kanu.
Muoma had argued that the accused be remanded in prison custody away from the cell of the DSS.
He said that his client had been kept incommunicado in the custody of the DSS for three months.
He therefore asked the court to send the accused person to prison so that his family could have access to him.
Diri, however, prayed the court to keep Kanu in the custody of the DSS for security reasons.
But the judge ruled that the defendant be taken to the Kuje Prison in the Federal Capital Territory.
He subsequently adjourned the case till January 25.
Kanu, who is the director of the outlawed Radio Biafra, was arrested by the DSS in Lagos on October 1u7, 2015.
Tuesday was the first time a court would order his remand after the Federal Government ignored previous rulings ordering his release.
