Radio presenter, Daddy Freeze, and Nollywood actress, Shirley Igwe, will on Sunday host GMYT Fashion Academy’s award night cum graduation ceremony.
The glamorous frozen-themed ball holding at the Grand Ball Room of Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, will see the celebration of 31 graduating students of the academy and the official launch of their individual brands.
Expected at the event are fashion industry luminaries, corporate leaders, philanthropists and top government officials and members of the diplomatic corps who are passionate about the growth of the Nigerian economy and the role women play in the growth of the economy.
Speaking about the event, CEO, House of GYMT, Princess Kelechi Romeo Oghene, said she is bent on empowering more women through fashion which she described as her strength. This, according to her, informed the setting up of her fashion academy.
She noted that having the students passing through the academy and learning the art of fashion aren’t enough as she believes there should be a platform for them to showcase to the whole world their talents and crafts through exhibitions of the designs and collections.
“They need to officially present their collections made while still at the academy to the entire world so that nobody will tomorrow question the originality of their brands and designs. That is the essence of the Frozen Ball holding on Sunday,” Princess Oghene said.
“I want them to establish contacts, build network for people to patronise them so they can also be able to impact on many others in the society while building a virile fashion industry in Nigeria.”
She noted that during the graduation ceremony, award and gifts will be presented to the overall best graduating student while special recognition awards will also be bestowed on some fashion icons and role models in the Nigeria fashion industry including CEO, Isis Models, Mrs. Joan Okorodudu.
Princess Oghene has proven to be one of the most inspiring fashion entrepreneurs in Africa. Her positive impact on her community and the society at large has earned her myriad of awards and good reputation too.
Her GMYT Foundation is an empowerment platform for underprivileged women to learn various aspects of fashion illustration, design, and manufacture via scholarship provisions to the GMYT Fashion Academy.
The foundation not only desires to train and equip women with skills in fashion design but also seeks to provide business knowledge for its beneficiaries to enable them start and grow sustainable businesses and in turn serve as vehicle for empowerment and employment.
Princess Oghene has promised that the frozen ball on Sunday will be an evening of fun and panache to be spiced with good music and comedy.
The Eboni Band will serenade guests with quality old and contemporary tunes.
