Damagum will destroy PDP, Edo experience will be a joke — Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye has criticised the acting national chairman of the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Umar Damagum, over its showing at Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

According to the results from 18 local government areas (LGAs) announced on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress emerged winner with a total of 291,667 votes.

The APC candidate also won in 11 of the state’s 18 local governments.

The first runner-up was Asue Ighodalo of the PDP who got 247,274 votes.

The Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata emerged as the second runner-up with a total of 22,763 votes.

In a post on X on Sunday night, Melaye described Damagum as the “destroyer” who will bring the PDP down if not stopped.

He also alleged that there are people working for the APC who are members of the PDP’s national working committee (NWC).

“With the destroyer called Damagun on the wheels…PDP is in the departure lounge waiting for the boarding pass. Edo experience will be a joke. There are more APC in the NWC than PDP,” he said.

Melaye earlier described the party as dead due to Damagum’s support for FCT minister Nyesom Wike who remains a PDP member but present in the APC administration of President Bola Tinubu.
