Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote joined dignitaries on Saturday at the wedding of Maryam Kwairanga, daughter of the chairman of Nigeria Exchange Limited (NGX) Umaru Kwairanga, and her groom Khalid Biri in Gombe State.
The wedding ceremony, which took place at the palace of the Emir of Gombe, was also attended by Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, banker, Umar Mutallab; former governors of Gombe and Sokoto, Ibrahim Dankwambo and Aminu Tambuwal; acting national chairman of PDP, Umar Damagum; state and federal lawmakers; members of the political and business classes from within and outside the state, as well as family members and associates.
Emir of Gombe and chairman of Gombe State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, Abubakar Shehu witnessed the wedding ceremony, where the chief imam of Gombe Central Mosque, Sheikh Muhammadu Pindiga, presided over the wedding and solemnised the marriage in accordance with Islamic injunctions.
Governor Yahaya served as Waliy for the bride and gave her hands in marriage on behalf of the Kwairanga family while the dowry of N500,000 was pronounced.
Following the wedding ceremony, the Emir hosted dignitaries to a royal luncheon at the palace’s stable known as Muri.
The governor, while congratulating the couple and their parents, emphasised that marriage as an institution requires mutual trust and understanding.
He urged the bride and groom to respect each other and adhere strictly to Islamic teachings in their matrimony.
