The Aliko Dangote Foundation has distributed 35,000 bags of rice to the less privileged and vulnerable households in Katsina State.

Mr. Mustapha Umar, a representative of the foundation, said this during the inauguration of the distribution exercise on Tuesday in Katsina.

He said the foundation would distribute 10-kilogram bags of rice to each of the beneficiaries selected from the 361 wards across the 34 local government areas of the state.

He said the gesture was part of humanitarian assistance to cushion the economic hardship being faced by vulnerable persons.

This, he said, was intended to complement the government efforts at all levels towards improving the well-being of the people.

“This year’s gesture is targeting over one million vulnerable Nigerians, aimed at reducing their hardship due to the economic situation in the country.

“The foundation is in various parts of the country to offer similar support to assist people, especially Muslims to enable them to observe the Ramadan fast with relative ease.

“Some 94 vulnerable people benefited with the Ramadan gesture in each of the political wards in the state,” he said.

Dr Aminu Usman, Commander of the Katsina State Hisbah Board, lauded the gesture, adding that it would go a long way to reduce the hardship of the people.

He urged wealthy individuals to emulate the gesture and assist the needy in society.

The exercise was attended by officials of the Hisba Board, Katsina State Community Development Programme and other stakeholders.
