Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, on Monday called Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and some of his billionaire friends “a group of people with a combined debt of 2.5 trillion naira”.
The 34-year-old was reacting to a viral picture of the moneymen hanging out on a yacht during the recent Eid-el-Fitr holiday.
Joining Dangote in the picture are Femi Otedola, Segun Awolowo, Donald Duke, Tunde Ayeni, Sam Nwajoku, and Niyi Adebayo.
While many social media commentators have expressed admiration for the men and wished to be in such company, the son of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, accused them of incurring huge debts to “buy a lavish lifestyle and paid for by tax payers”
He queried: “How can people owe so much and still be allowed to keep all their luxury while the tax payers are footing the bill?”
With a net worth of $12.1billion, Dangote is listed as the richest man in Africa.
None of the men pictured with him is a billionaire in dollars.
Seun, like his father and older brother, Femi Kuti, has made a vocation out of criticising the rich and powerful.
The Knitting Factory Records artiste is currently on his Summer Tour 2017 with the Egypt 80 Band.
