A Dangote truck, driven by a man identified as Dairu Murtala, killed three men on Tuesday in Arepo, Ogun State along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Murtala, who was chased and apprehended by some motorcyclists, allegedly drove against the traffic when the accident occurred.
The driver was reportedly beaten before policemen from the Warewa Division intervened and rescued him from the mob.
It was gathered that the deceased men, who were about to cross the expressway into the Arepo, were workers in a company in the community.
The remains of the victims were removed by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)
Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, who confirmed the incident, told journalists, “The accident occurred at the Ibadan to Lagos route around 8am. The crash involved an ash coloured Dangote truck, with number plate DTF 118 XA. The truck driver hit three persons, all males, and killed them on the spot.
“The crash was caused by dangerous driving and route violation. The police apprehended the driver and towed away the truck, while an FRSC ambulance conveyed the corpses to the Sagamu Hospital mortuary.”
