Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has received the Astra-Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele and two frontline health workers were also administered the vaccine.
Mr Abiodun urged the public to make themselves available to receive the vaccine.
“I have had my first dose of the Astra-Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine delivered yesterday in Abeokuta. My Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele and two frontline health workers were also administered theirs,” he tweeted on Tuesday.
“Taking our doses is, first, service to self then to people, because we can only silence the virus if we think and act together. We should be aware that even our two doses don’t preclude the use of facemasks and compliance with other safety guidelines.
“I urge us all to make ourselves available to take our doses, especially those prioritised by the NPHCDA on basis of profession, age or other criteria,” he added.
Ogun is the first state in the country to receive the vaccine consignment.
According to the governor, the first supply of 50,000 doses of the total 100,000 #COVID19 vaccines were received on Monday.
Abiodun thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the presidential task force on COVID-19 led by the secretary to the government of the federation Boss Mustapha for the vaccines.
