Singer Davido has congratulated Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, for winning the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday.
Tems’ song ‘Love Me Jeje’ triumphed over ‘Tomorrow’ by Yemi Alade, ‘MMS’ by Asake and Wizkid, ‘Sensational’ by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay and ‘Higher’ by Burna Boy.
The track, which samples Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic of the same title, has earned widespread acclaim since its release in April 2023.
Reacting on X on Monday, Davido expressed pride in Tems, writing, “Congratulations to my one and only! @chrisbrown! And to the Queen @temsbaby we are proud of you.”
This marks Tems’ second Grammy win. South African singer Tyla won the inaugural edition of the Best African Music Performance category in 2024 with ‘Water.’
Tems was nominated in three categories this year, bringing her career tally to eight. She also earned nods for Best Global Music Album (Born in the Wild) and Best R&B Song (Burning).
