Singer David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has initiated legal proceedings against his first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, seeking joint custody of their nine-year-old daughter, Imade Adeleke.
The suit filed at the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024, by Davido’s legal team outlines the musician’s grievances and reasons for demanding custody.
Davido alleged that Sophia has been using their daughter as a means to extract money from him. “That it is on record that I have been responsible for the payment of all the school fees of my daughter to provide her with the best education possible and to meet all her educational needs without a hitch,” he stated in the suit.
He also highlighted his financial support for housing, claiming, “I have also been providing money for the rent of the apartment where the respondent resides with our daughter.”
In a detailed account, Davido said that despite offering a secure apartment in the Oniru area of Lagos which he purchased, Sophia demanded he continues to pay N5 million annually for a rented facility.
Furthermore, he mentioned providing a Range Rover sport utility vehicle to meet transportation needs, covering living expenses, nanny fees, medical and health care, insurance, and periodic international travel expenses.
The ‘Unavailable’ singer accused Sophia of making “outlandish and Utopian demands” and claimed she exhibited unwarranted cruelty towards him. Among her demands, he noted, was a request for $800 per month for a nanny she hired, totaling $19,600 annually to be paid upfront.
Davido claimed that Sophia’s alleged actions have inflicted significant emotional pain on him.
As part of his plea to the court, the singer is requesting an order for joint custody of their daughter to ensure her wellbeing and stability.
