Colleagues of the late Murphy Afolabi have begun mourning him following his death just nine days after he clocked 49.
The Yoruba actor died on Sunday, May 14 after a fall in the bathroom at his Ikorodu home in Lagos.
Mourning him, Actress Dayo Amusa wrote on Instagram, “We celebrated your birthday just few days ago 😢 I am deeply sad and shocked on hearing this sad news. Oku nsunkun Oku. Death is hard and cruel. I pray that may his soul RIP.”
Actress Wumi Toriola wrote on Instagram that she waited till Monday for news countering reports of his death.
“Your demise came as a rude shock. I was waiting for a news to counter the death news which I did considered a rumor. I waited to hear that ‘oh Murphy fainted but he is back to life,” she wrote.
Wumi added that although she and Murphy disagreed on issues a lot of times he was gentle and kind.
She also wondered to herself why she did not tell him how much she admired him when he was alive.
“We never thought we would say goodbye this soon and yet this is another reminder that we do not own our lives. I wished I wrote all these during your birthday,” Wumi said.
Actor Muyiwa Ademola wrote, “Each Birthday takes us closer to our grave. Remember that tomorrow might never come!
“A death like this is just a reminder, yes we don’t pray to die young but we must always remember that; DEATH is INEVITABLE! A visitor that intrudes without knocking! Good night Murphy.”
Odunlade Adekola, who was one of the first persons to react to Murphy’s death, wrote in few words: “Jesus Christ, We lost Murphy.”
Others like Ibrahim Chatta, Sanyeri, and Damola Olatunji also paid tributes to Murphy.
Born in Osun State, Murphy graduated from Ire Polytechnic in the same state. He got into the movie industry in 2001.
