Seyitan Babatayo, the woman who accused singer, D’banj of raping her in her hotel room in December 2018, has insisted that she was unlawfully arrested, detained, and coerced into withdrawing her allegations against the 40-year-old singer.
She had previously made the claim in a statement released on her behalf by a law firm named Bronks and Montgomery on June 24, but this time, she released the statement on her own Twitter account with username @Seyitannn_
“For the avoidance of doubt, my statement below. These are my words, the details to date on what happened to me, and I stand by them. My lawyers will provide updates as necessary going forward, thank you very much,” she tweeted.
Like the previous one, her statement provides a timeline of events from June 6 when she claims she tried to lodge a formal complaint about the assault at a police station but was ignored, to June 18 when according to her, she was rescued from the location where she was being held by the singer and his team by a Non-Governmental Organisation, The Stand To End Rape Initiative (STER).
D’banj had earlier reacted to abduction allegation, implying that it was a false story cooked up by some NGOs in order to get international funding.
He also urged human rights activist, Segun Awosanya, who has been in contact with Babatayo, to “tell the truth and not chicken out.”
