A pastor of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry John Odogbo has been elected the paramount ruler of Idomaland.
Odogbo defeated three other contenders — Andrew Idakwu, John Bamaiyi and Sunday Echono — in an election conducted by kingmakers.
Out of 28 votes, he polled 19 votes while Idakwu got one vote, and Echono got eight votes.
Odogbo will be succeeding Elias Obekpa who died in October 2021. He ascended the throne in 1996 following the exit of HRM Abraham Okpabi.
Idoma traditional council on Thursday presented the Och’Idoma-elect to the state governor, Samuel Ortom, at the government house, Makurdi.
Ortom said that appointment belongs to God who chooses one and anoints such person to do His will.
Odogbo, a native of Agatu Local Government Area, was born on March 27, 1969. He bagged a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1994 and is currently studying for his doctorate degree.
