Ademola Seriki, Nigeria’s late ambassador to Spain, has been given a posthumous award by the European country.
The award was given to the deceased for his work in strengthening the Nigeria-Spain relationship.
It was presented by the Spanish minister of foreign affairs, European Union and cooperation Jose Manuel Albares to Seriki’s wife and son.
Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs Geoffrey Onyeama confirmed the award, saying it is evidence of the great work and tenacity of the late ambassador in promoting the bilateral relations between both countries.
Onyeama added the late Seriki added a lot of dynamism, passion and played a significant role in strengthening the relationship leading to the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Spain in 2022.
According to the minister, “The Honourable Minister came and personally, on behalf of the King of Spain, presented a posthumous award of national honour to late Ambassador Demola Seriki and which was received by his wife and his son.
“This really showed not just the appreciation of the Spanish government for the excellent work that Demola has done as Ambassador of Nigeria to Spain, but also the appreciation of his personal and human qualities.”
Onyeama appreciated the government of Spain for the posthumous honour to the ambassador.
Seriki died on Thursday, December 15 in Madrid, Spain.
A statement by his children said the 63-year-old died peacefully surrounded by his family.
He was buried in Lagos on December 17.
