Denrele Edun reunites with maternal family in Mauritius, East Africa region

Media personality Denrele Edun has reunited with his maternal family in Mauritius, in the East Africa region.

Denrele shared a heartfelt video on Tuesday, capturing his emotional first-ever meeting with his grandmother, uncle, cousins and other family members from his mother’s side.

In an Instagram post, Denrele expressed his excitement and nervousness leading up to the reunion. He wrote, “As the day of this meeting approached, I was a bundle of nerves. Excited, slightly worrisome. ‘What if they didn’t show up?’ I thought.”

He credited his sister-in-law, Anishta Rampersadsingh, for making the meeting possible, as she embarked on a two-hour journey to bring the family together at his resort.

The reunion proved to be an emotional moment, especially for Denrele’s 89-year-old grandmother, Dolly Atwaroo, who couldn’t hold back tears upon meeting him for the first time.

Denrele recalled his mother, Anita Edun, often speaking highly of her, describing her as “Loving, protective, kind and gentle.”

His post further acknowledged the powerful presence of his grandmother, writing, “If you’re lucky, and I have been so very lucky, GRANDMA aka NANI is the ever-present, the foundational and existential ubiquity of BEING. I felt BLESSED in her presence.”

The reunion did not stop there. Denrele revealed that his first cousin, Nuvin, later took time off work to come and say hello, further strengthening the long-lost family bonds.

The TV personality extended his appreciation to his close friends, including media personality Chude Jideonwo and others who supported him on this journey.

He also used the moment to celebrate Mother’s Day, honouring his grandmother, mother and sister-in-law for their strength and love.

With gratitude, Denrele ended his post with a declaration, “MAURITIUS, your son is finally HOME!”
