Netizens have begun dragging actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot for distributing perfumes and books to his constituents.
Ahead of the by-election for Surulere Federal Constituency 1, Desmond, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing the constituency, took his team on Thursday to a rally and distributed items to residents of the area.
The by-election is to replace Femi Gbajabiamila who resigned from the House of Representatives to become President Bola Tinubu’s chief of staff.
Criticising Desmond, some social media users said he belittled his constituents with the items at a time when many were hungry.
Desmond’s supporters, however, said his naysayers would have also criticised him if he distributed food items to his constituents.
