Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Monday posted his speech at the Mo Ibrahim Forum in Marrakesh, Morocco over the weekend on Instagram in which he condemned politicians who use religion to deceive voters.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor turned traditional ruler cited Zamfara as an example, noting that the state which started Sharia Law in 1999 has the highest poverty rate in Nigeria.
While recognising that people who play the religious game to get into politics still have to be given a chance, the 55-year-old argued that religion should not be used as a means of acquiring power because it never brings good results.

Sanusi recently faulted Governor Yari of Zamfara State for saying that the cerebrospinal meningitis outbreak in the nation is God’s punishment for fornication.
