It was never a question of if socialite, Toke Makinwa, and her equally celebrity husband, Maje Ayida, will have a headline grabbing marital crisis. It was a matter of when.
And it came via reports that Mr Ayida got his Calabar-based ex-girlfriend, identified as Anita Solomon, pregnant. The lady is said to have travelled to the UK to be delivered of the one thing Toke has not been able to give her husband.
The couple’s January 15, 2014 nuptial came shortly after one of their many celebrated break ups and make ups.
Speaking in 2013 during one such estrangement, Toke told a reporter, “I was once in a long term relationship with Maje Ayida and it has come to an end. I think it’s unfair for me to speak about our relationship because he is not here to defend himself. He is an amazing guy but it was not meant to be.
“It’s strange being single again but I am taking it one step after the other. One of the mistakes I made in my last relationship is that we dated for a long time. They were amazing years but they were also 12 long years.
“When you are faithful to someone, know what you can tolerate. My Mr Right has to be God-fearing, who would not do certain things because he is God-fearing. He has to understand what I do and must not be selfish in any way”.
The relationship suffered overexposure before and after the wedding. It is months since the pair exchanged marriage vows and Toke’s words in that interview three tears ago may be coming back to haunt her.
Like she did back then, the popular event girl has taken her case to God through her church Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM).
Here is hoping her prayers and those of others can move the mountain standing between her and Maje.
