Diddy made Speed Darlington popular – Seun Kuti

Singer Seun Kuti has claimed that American rapper and music executive Sean “Diddy” Combs played a pivotal role in Speed Darlington’s rise to fame.

Seun made the statement during an Instagram live session while distancing himself from the feud between his colleagues Burna Boy and Darlington.

He addressed claims that his association with Burna Boy, including receiving diamond jewelry from him, made him an adviser to the Grammy-winning artist.

“Don’t involve me in Burna Boy and Speed Darlington’s case. Just because I collected a diamond from Burna Boy doesn’t mean I’m his close adviser,” Seun clarified.

The Afrobeat musician went further to explain how Diddy’s involvement boosted Darlington’s visibility.

“Diddy was the one who made Speed Darlington popular. He reposted ‘Bangdadang,’ which made the song gain traction. I’ve done many songs, but Diddy never reposted any of them,” Seun said.

Darlington was rearrested on November 27 in Owerri, Imo State and remains in custody despite a Federal High Court ruling granting him bail.

His troubles stem from allegations, including claims of an illicit relationship between Burna Boy and Diddy, which he suggested was aimed at securing a Grammy win.

The rapper has since filed a N300 million lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for the violation of his fundamental rights, with activists like Deji Adeyanju criticising the police for ignoring the court’s orders.
