R&B singer, Timi Dakolo, has denied allegation that he stole the lyrics of troubled Majek Fashek’s ‘Send Down the Rain’ for a 2013 remake.
Speaking in an interview with Punch, Majek said the 2007 Idols West Africa winner “broke the rules of copyright. He is a thief because in music business, he must take permission before he works on someone’s song.”
Majek, who was admitted at an Abuja rehab for substance dependence last year continued: “I felt bad when I learnt that he worked on my song without my consent. He did not even give me credit.
“He is a very bad artiste and he took advantage of the circumstance that I was facing during that time. The song is not a normal song; it is a spiritual hit song.”
Timi, who is a judge on The Voice Nigeria, however, denies the allegation, claiming he paid Majek’s manager before covering the song.
He even said he was issued an invoice as proof of payment.
