General overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM) Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to consider for national award Ejiro Otarigho, the heroic driver of a diesel truck that exploded at Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, on Saturday.
Mr Otarigho drove the tanker to a secluded place after it caught fire to avert disaster.
Chinyere tweeted that Otarigho should be treated as a hero for his action.
“Dear president @MBuhari please consider the young man in the photo for a national award, after watching the video of him driving a burning truck filled with diesel to safety away from highly-populated area, please ensure he is treated like a hero for saving lives and properties,” he said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa commended Otarigho in a statement by his chief press secretary, Olisa Ifeajika.
He expressed appreciation to Otarigho for the discretion he applied in steering the already burning truck, laden with petroleum product, away from a densely populated area, at the risk of his life, describing his valour as “amazing”.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta, I commend Mr Otarigho what our God Almighty used him to do on that day – saving lives and property by his heroic action.
“In a country plagued by challenges of varying dimensions, such acts of bravery are commendable and worthy of emulation,” Okowa said.
