Bashir Ahmad social media aide of President Muhammadu Buhari has described as “great message” a statement by former minister of petroleum resources Diezani Alison-Madueke on internet fraudsters locally known as ‘Yahoo’ boys.
Mrs Diezani had on Friday during a virtual event lamented the lack of societal values that have now made Yahoo boys role models in the Nigerian society. Videos of the event surfaced on Sunday.
Following the backlash that greeted her comments, Mr Ahmad tweeted on Monday, advising that the message should be taken in spite of the messenger’s lack of credibility.
“Diezani on Yahoo Boys; great message, so take the message and leave the messenger, since the message ≠ the messenger!” he wrote.
Diezani is wanted in Nigeria for alleged fraud running into billions of dollars. She has been in the United Kingdom since 2015.
The ex-minister was reportedly appointed as a commissioner for trade and investment by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of the Commonwealth of Dominica and handed a diplomatic passport which has helped her to evade prosecution.
