The senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has been admitted at Zankil Medical Centre, Abuja after reportedly jumping out of a moving police vehicle.
Mr Melaye had submitted himself to the police earlier on Tuesday, after a siege on his Abuja residence which began on Monday.
He was being taken to Lokoja, the capital of his home state, where he is expected to be interrogated by the police in connection to a murder case and other criminal activities when he jumped out of the vehicle.
Pictures of him sitting on the floor and lying on the stretcher immediately went viral on social media.
His condition is said not to be critical.
Meanwhile, Kogi State police commissioner, Ali Janga, has denied reports that Melaye was to be paraded alongside previously arrested suspects who have allegedly confessed to getting illegal firearms from the lawmaker.
Mr Janga told PREMIUM TIMES the police did not plan to arraign the senator, but would only convene a press briefing on the charges against him and others.
Melaye was on Monday arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja while attempting to travel to Morocco.
Heavily armed policemen stormed his house after he left the airport in mysterious circumstances.
