Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, was on Tuesday morning arrested by the police, ending a two-day siege on his Abuja residence.
The 44-year-old was arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit and taken to the office of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
His arrest came after he tweeted that he was going to surrender to the police on Tuesday.
Melaye was first arrested on Monday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on his way to Morocco.
It was learned that immigration officials told him that he is on the Interpol watch list and cannot be allowed to travel out of the country.
Monday’s arrest, according to the Nigerian Immigration Service, was based on an order from above.
He subsequently left the airport, leading to a siege on his residence by heavily armed policemen.
