Senator Dino Melaye on Monday night recalled the day he slept on the verandah of the Department of State Services’ hospital in Abuja.
The former Kogi lawmaker shared a photo from the incident on Twitter in support of the #EndSARS protest.
Melaye captioned his post, “When I slept outside in Police custody because I suspected I was going to be taken to a gassed room.”
The incident occurred in January 2019 after Melaye surrendered to the police following a standoff outside his Maitama apartment that began on December 28, 2018.
Police alleged that Melaye was involved in the shooting of a policeman Danjuma Saliu in Kogi State in July 2018.
Police said Melaye was moved from a police hospital to the DSS medical facility in order to certify whether he was fit to stand trial for criminal charges or not.
The case has now been quashed by a court.
