The senator representing Bayelsa East constituency at the National Assembly, Ben Murray-Bruce, has alleged that the Nigerian police have refused to allow reconnection of electricity to the home of Senator Dino Melaye.
Mr Murray-Bruce said on Wednesday in a message on Twitter that the senator’s children have been in darkness and “under very horrific conditions.”
He wrote: “So after @dino_melaye surrendered himself to @PoliceNG, the Police did a thorough search of his house & found nothing. Yet, the police have refused AEDC from reconnecting his power. Currently, Dino’s kids are left to sleep in darkness and under very horrific conditions.”
Mr Melaye surrendered to the police on January 4 after an eight-day siege by the police at his Maitama, Abuja residence.
The senator has been hospitalised after he slumped at the headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Abuja.
The police say he is fit to face trial for criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide, allegedly committed on 19th July, 2018, when the senator alongside his armed thugs allegedly attacked police personnel; shotting and wounding one Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) on stop and search duty along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State.
Melaye has however asked for more attention on the state of his health.
