Florence Otedola, disc jockey and daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola, widely known as DJ Cuppy has made history by becoming the first Nigerian to host an opening session at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
DJ Cuppy took centre stage as the moderator for Youth Action Day at the 2024 UNGA, which was themed “The Summit of the Future – Youth Actions Day.”
Following her keynote address, she also delivered a vibrant musical performance.
Her session marked a historic moment, drawing the largest youth gathering ever at the UN Headquarters
During the event, Cuppy hinted at her political ambitions, suggesting she could become Nigeria’s first female president.
In response, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed remarked, “You told me you wanted to be Nigeria’s first female president, and what did I say? After me.”
Cuppy’s aspirations, coupled with Amina’s endorsement, reflect a growing movement toward increased female leadership in Nigeria.
Both women emphasised the importance of youth activism, encouraging young people to amplify their voices in the fight against global challenges.
The session also featured notable figures, including the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs and José Maria Neves, the president of Cape Verde.
