A medical doctor simply identified as Allwell Orji on Sunday jumped off the Third Mainland Bridge into the Lagos Lagoon.
The man who was in a sport utility vehicle (SUV) was said to have directed his driver to stop so he could discuss something confidential on the phone.
He reportedly got out of the vehicle and jumped into the lagoon to the horror of the driver and passers-by.
Officials of the Lagos state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), policemen and local divers later launched a mission to recover the body of the victim.
The incident was confirmed by LASEMA general manager, Adesina Tiamiyu.
According to Tiamiyu, his agency received a distress call that a man parked his grey coloured Nissan SUV) with registration number LND 476 EE at about 4.50 pm around Adekunle, inward 3rd Mainland bridge and jumped into the Lagos lagoon.
He said preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that the man ordered his driver to pull over, dropped from the car before jumping into the water from the bridge.
“The vehicle and the driver have been taken to Adeniji Adele Police Station for further investigation, while effort is on going to recover his body from the Lagoon,” he added.
