Head of the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Abayomi Shogunle, has advised that Nigerians should communicate with policemen in pidgin and not ‘Queen’s English’ to avoid misunderstanding.
Mr Shogunle shared a video he got from Lagos police on Wednesday of police officers being addressed first in English language before the speaker switched to pidgin to have his message understood by the officers.
Shogunle captioned the video: “Lagos State will be calm if police chiefs in #Lagos do more of this. #YSGuide: For now, don’t go and be speaking Queen’s English with them on the road. For proper understanding talk to them in Pidgin, another way to avoid kasala.”
Shogunle is not foreign to controversies. One time, he sparked public debate with a statement that sexual intercourse in a vehicle, if it meets some requirements, would not be counted as an offence.
