Douye Diri not responsible for Nengi’s pregnancy – Media aide

Douye Diri

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has debunked allegations of impregnating Big Brother Naija reality star Nengi Hampson.

The rumour, which originated from controversial blog Gistlover on Monday, alleged that Nengi was expecting a child for the governor, who purportedly has four wives. The claim quickly gained traction online.

Reacting on X, Nengi dismissed the speculation as baseless, expressing frustration over the false reports. She clarified that her pregnancy had no connection to any governor.

“As much as I believe social media lies aren’t worth my time, I’ve come to accept that we live in a world where people are quick to spread lies without limits, so let me be clear: I’m not pregnant for any governor.

“I’ve chosen to speak because this isn’t just an attack on me—it involves people I hold in the highest regard, and I won’t allow a beautiful, personal part of my life to be turned into something ugly,” she wrote.

Nengi further appealed for privacy as she enjoys her pregnancy journey, wishing her followers a happy Valentine’s weekend.

Despite her statement, the rumour continued circulating, prompting the Director-General of New Media to the governor, Samuel Oredipe, to address the matter.

In a Facebook post on Monday evening, he described the allegations as false and politically motivated.

He accused the governor’s opponents of attempting to divert attention from activities marking Diri’s fifth anniversary in office. Oredipe also emphasized that Nengi had no personal relationship with the governor.

“Political enemies of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, are at work again.

“What a wicked set of people spreading falsehood on a day the Prosperity Administration commenced activities marking its 5th anniversary.

“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri, and it is regrettable that purveyors of fake news are unhappy with the governor’s growing political profile.

“Nengi herself has debunked their lies. Gistlover goofed again! All fake! This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in advocating for regulation of social media use.

“Sadly, while we were inaugurating a brand-new road in Yenagoa, social media e-rats were busy spreading falsehood about the governor.

“Governor Diri is a man of honor and dignity,” he stated.

The controversy continues to generate reactions on social media.
