Some parents of pupils of Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos on Wednesday night turned up in front of the school to hold a candlelight session for the late Sylvester Oromoni.
The young boy died on November 30 in Delta State after allegedly being attacked by senior students of the school for refusing to join their cult.
In keeping with the announcement by the school’s parents’ forum, parents wore black T-shirts with inscriptions showing tribute to Oromoni on them.
A parent Oluwaseun Ajila, who spoke on behalf of others, said most of them were traumatised by Oromoni’s death.
She said, “I am in shock and I am gradually coming out of the shock considering that Sylvester and my daughter were fun mates and they entered Dowen College the same time the same year. My trauma has been that it would have been anybody’s son or daughter, so I just really want to put the message out there that you have not been able to hear our voice loud and clear earlier does not mean in any way that Dowen parents support the act or event that happened.”
An autopsy is being awaited to confirm the cause of death as the management of the school insists Oromoni only suffered a leg injury from playing football.
