The police have released the body of Dowen College student Sylvester Oromoni to his family for burial.
The release, which was confirmed by Lagos police spokesman Adekunle Ajisebutu on Friday, followed autopsy conducted to ascertain the cause of his death.
“Sylvester Oromoni: autopsy done. (The) result is being awaited. Corpse (was) released to (the) family for burial. Investigation ongoing,” Mr Ajisebutu wrote in a note to journalists.
Oromoni died after allegedly being attacked by senior students of the school for refusing to join their cult.
His family had demanded a coroner inquest into his death while the police said five students alleged to have been involved in the attack were in their custody.
The family had also asked the police to investigate blogger and social media personality Kemi Olunloyo for allegedly attempting to destroy Oromoni’s name on social media by claiming that the boy was willing to do everything to join the cult.
