Doyin Okupe, former spokesperson of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has swapped imported rice for Ofada as part of the fallout of closure of the country’s borders by the Federal Government.

Mr Okupe shared a photo of himself on Monday night via Twitter feasting on Ofada rice.

He wrote: “Border closure, and increase in price of imported rice does not affect us in Iperu. Since I was a child till this day, from our Kabiyesis chiefs and ordinary folks it’s always been OFADA wt green stew, all the way!!!!”

The Federal Government on Monday listed conditions to be met by Benin and Niger Republics before the country would reopen its borders for goods importation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said at the end of the tripartite meeting of the Federal Government Committee on Border Closure, that any good imported from ECOWAS member states must have the 30 per cent local input, noting that the country would no longer tolerate repackaging of goods coming into the country.

The minister said that any imported goods for Nigerian market must also come in its original form and be escorted directly from the port of member states to the Nigerian border.

Onyeama explained that the only travel document allowed for anybody coming into the country through the land borders is the official passport, adding that the country would not accept any other form of identification like identity cards.
